  • Fans en route to Florida for Universal Studios’ new Harry Potter theme park should be more concerned about their weight than the wait in line. “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Kingdom,” the flagship ride opened earlier this month at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, boasts a combination of special effects and high-tech gimmicks as stars of the film guide muggles (lingo for us “non-wizarding folk”) along a journey through the Hogwarts castle. Though it’s been deemed one of the most modern rides in the world, the ride’s seats weren’t built for large passengers, forcing operators to now conduct “random” screening checks on certain patrons to see if they’ll fit in a test seat. Universal has received large-scale criticism since it unveiled the ride, with the majority of its other roller coasters and attractions containing “modified seating” rows for larger guests. [Jaunted]
  • With today’s release of the third Twilight film, Eclipse, “twihard” fans the world over can follow the cast’s footsteps through a special trip now offered by the Kalaloch Lodge in Washington’s Olympic National Park. The themed package includes a one-night stay in a double occupancy log cabin, a Twilight trivia game, and a special map of the Forks area, marked with important locations from the books, enabling fans to visit the places they’ve only read about in the novels. The offer, good through October 30, starts at $202 when booked online. [Gadling]
