  • South Korean woman Oh Eun-sun became the first woman yesterday to climb the world’s 14 highest peaks after she successfully reached the summit of Annapura in central Nepal. Said Oh, who is five-foot-one, “I would like to share this joy with the South Korean people.” [New York Times]

  • Last week, there were some three million downloads of Lonely Planet’s iPhone Europe city guides, which the travel company made available for free for passengers stranded due to Iceland’s volcanic ash. Because of the iPhone app success, Lonely Planet will continue to offer 32 of its Europe city guides at a discounted rate of $4.99 (€3.99, £2.99, $5.99AU) in the iTunes App store. Offer ends April 30.
